NSHL Weekend Preview: Mariners visit Habs, Islanders visit Fighting Spirit for two game sets

2013-01-11

After an exciting start to NSHL action in 2013 last weekend, the drama should manifest again this week in a pair of two-game series between NSHL rivals.

Coming off a difficult shootout loss at the hands of the Stars last weekend, the Junior Mariners will journey south on Friday to battle the Trenton Habs.

Trenton (13-11-2) currently sits in third place and has been out of action since December 2, when they suffered a difficult shootout loss to Syracuse. With the Mariners bearing down on them in fourth place, the Habs will be challenged to find their legs quickly this weekend, as the two-game series could prove vital in the final standings.

The Cape Cod Islanders enjoyed a convincing 3-0 victory over the Stars last Sunday, but could face a far steeper task when they travel to Lake George on Saturday for a two-game tilt against the NSHL’s top team in the standings, the Lake George Fighting Spirit (22-2-1).

Lake George has been out of action since the weekend of December 15/16 when they enjoyed a pair of hard-fought victories against their greatest rival, the Syracuse Stampede, in the marquee match-up of the NSHL schedule. All remaining NSHL teams will begin their respective 2013 campaigns next weekend.
