Trenton Habs defenseman Chris Watkins, a native of Spokane, Wa, last night committed to Dakota College for the Fall of 2012.
The Dakota College Men's Ice Hockey program has a reputation as a truly stellar powerhouse as noted by, "Eight national titles, one NHL Stanley Cup winning player, and a reputation as the nations best small college hockey program, that's Lumberjack hockey. Dakota College at Bottineau has won the last four NJCAA national titles. With players and alumni from Sweden, Norway, Switzerland, Latvia, Czech Republic, Canada, and many U.S. states, our hockey team is truly international in scope."
Chris, a 1991- birth year defender who was recruited by the Habs staff after a PG year at Bridgton Academy in Maine, had this to say about the opportunity, "Thanks. I'm excited. I want to study either pharmacy or physical therapy... their coach was thrilled to talk to me. I'll get my Pre-Recs out of the way then transfer to an NCAA school."
It's part of the Habs overall mission to develop solid student-athletes and move them on to higher levels. Watkin's signing is part of a growing list of Habs alumni pursuing their educational and athletic dreams in college hockey.
